How to rename a list item based on a field in the list item detail

GoCanvas offers a feature that will rename a list item entered on a looped screen based on a field in the list item detail. This feature comes in handy when you have lists that will have the same list item but different information in the detail and when using Barcode scanning on your iOS or Android device.

Renaming a List Item

Example: If I am scanning the Barcodes for multiple items, instead of seeing a list full of barcodes on my device, I can set my App to pull the name of the item.

So, instead of seeing:                             

• 0123456789
• 0987654321
• 5678904321

I would see:

• Large Water
• Small Water
• Medium Water

Another example:

If I were to be adding cases of water I have to a list, instead of seeing:

• Large Water
• Large Water
• Large Water

I could see:

• Aquafina
• Fiji
• Deer Park

To set your list up follow these steps:

1. Login and open the App Builder for the App you want to edit.
2. Select or create the loop screen you would like to change the display field for.
3. Open the Screen Settings.
   
   
    
4. Click the Display Field drop down and choose the field you wish to pull information from and then click done (You may only select Short Text, Drop Down, Number, Date or Time field).
5. Save or Publish to device to see it in action!
